Sylvain Robineau
Note sur la conception du film:
"You're still skating, how old are you ?", my mother often sarcastically asks me. I don't blame her, i can easily understand how strange it must be for her to picture her 32 year old son pushing on a plank of wood, as some kind of retard –to go after what, after who ?
It's not her fault, i just haven't manage to educate her. When i was just a teenager, i didn't have the words nor the hindsight to express what endlessly pushed me to mount my moped to reach the city and my friends -my skateboard methodically tied to my luggage rack with some strap.
In his essay "The forbidden concurrence, notes on skateboarding", author Raphaël Zarka proposes some kind of introduction to skateboarding, via simple yet smart concepts about the notion of game and pleasure, and about a form of re-appropriation of the city by its users. As i put the book down, it appeared to me to be the educational tool i had always lacked to educate my parents about what skateboarding is.
When one is haunted with a voracious passion, only one thing matters : to satisfy it. It's in this state of mind that i wrote and directed this movie, incorporating Raphaël Zarka's didactic speach into a love story of sorts, gibing birth to what could be called a docu-fiction.
Passion is but a form of love ; in that, it can be exclusive and destructive. I made this movie as i walked out of a long relationship, which is why i naturally felt the need to place the action in the context of a love story. Should one compromise, or give up one's passion, to spare the other ? Or should one just yield to it ?
Personally, i think passions have all excuses.
Sylvain Robineau
Note on the conception of the movie:
This documentary is about our adaptability to the city ; there is also a case of adaptability in the production process of this movie : self produced (for 90%), shot with a basic camcorder, without help from any technician, and with friends as comedians.

A skateboard is at the same time a means of locomotion and an incredible juggling tool. The city, wonderful playground for a skateboarder, is also the stage on which the four characters of this movie cross paths.
Raphael Zarka, artist and author of two books on skateboarding, explains on a radio show his perception and outlook on skateboarding. Suddenly, a news report interrupts the show : the fake cab driver is still prowling, two girls have disappeared after being mounted on board.
A young woman, Laura, has renounced to her relationship with Ian. He is absorbed with a passion which, according to her, has taken the leading role. She has a strange habit, every Saturday she takes a cab and collects portraits of cab drivers.
The words of Raphael Zarka, overheard on the radio, are feeding the conversation between Laura and the cab driver on romantic relationships. While they are confronting ideas and driving through a surprisingly calm Paris, a skateboarder in a red polo shirt is roaming around the city. Ian, for his part, is trapped in the nostalgia of his relationship with Laura. He would do anything to see her again and win her back, and for this, he has a plan.

Laura Chetrit a aujourd' hui 22 ans.

Julie Casteran :
Hazardeous singer, conceptual comedian, i am also mediocre at dancing. It is the diversity of these non-talents, coupled with a fierce desire to share a scene with Soy Panday under the direction of Sylvain Robineau, that have naturally led me to be the most obvious pick for this role.
I also have a real job on the side, much funnier, and am said to be impeccable.
Soy Panday :
"A sunny morning of february 1977, at hours where honest people are still deeply asleep, cradled by the sweet sound of hail crashing against their windows, i laid for the first time ever my laughing eyes upon the world, not without noticing that the delivery room of Orleans' General Hospital could use better decoration. I remember crying a lot, but the yellow paint and the obvious lack of major art pieces on the walls didn't seem to bother anyone else but me, as all seemed pretty content around me. My dad, a cigarette hanging in the corner of his mouth, looked at me and proudly said : "You will be an engineer my son" -to which i promptly replied –in some kind of post-amnyotic language of which i still knew very little back then : "Hrrrmm, yeah, well, this may be going a little too fast don't you think, why don't we just discuss all this calmly over a drink ?"
Impassioned by drawing and painting from an early age on, it was very naturally that after i got both my baccalauréat in Science and a long talk with my parents about the necessity for me to pursue my artistic aspirations in an art school that woulnd't totalize more than 3 hours of class per week- i sat for 6 years on the benches of the University of La Sorbonne studying Economy and Management. My dad has always been better than me at negociating.
Once with a Master's Degree in Business and Management, a clear understanding of Economy and Geopolitics, a decent knowledge of the various financial tools, and the ability to balance a balance-sheet like no one else, i did what any sensible human being would have done in my place : something else than business or accouting.

Laura Chetrit is 22 years old.
After a long walk through the corridors of the Camille Saint-Saens conservatory of music (10 years), and a Baccalauréat in Litterature safely sitting in her back pocket, she leaves the piano to start studying performing arts, but quickly abandons the much boring university benches to join a theater school.
During her 3 year course (+2 years before that at the Espace Paris Marais school), she explores a plethora of characters and takes part in many unremunerated projects.
Experienced, after having joined two theater compagnies and acted in several short movies, she is now impatiently awaiting a role that will allow her to buy groceries.
Ian Faure :
Impassioned, sure of his choices, but nonetheless in constant search of the absolute, Ian devotes several years of his life to skateboarding, before putting on a new hat, that of a comedian. At times hypersensitive, violent, full of OCDs, in the tongue of Molière or that of Shakespeare, he doesn't hesitate to direct others, to better find himself, and to get a better understanding of his own art.
